Lanjaron is a town in the lower Alpurrajas, on the southern slopes of Spain’s Sierra Nevada. The paintings were produced from a large selection of sketchbook drawings and paintings, which I did whilst on a trip to Spain. We were nestled above Lanjaron with views South towards the Sierra Lujar and the Mediterranean.
It is a wild and dramatic landscape, sun scorched and arid, with strong earth colours. Burnt trees scattered amongst the surrounding valleys, punctuated by small lush cultivated areas of olive, lemon and orange groves. I was overwhelmed by a strong sense of a landscape in which nature lives and dies.
